Revisit a Classic....West Side Story

The Broadway revival of the classic West Side Story is playing on Broadway to delighted audiences. Wouldn’t we love to be members of that audience and experience firsthand all the youthful fervor and finger snapping? However (sigh...) with the economy as it is, many will probably not be able to splurge on the Sharks and the Jets this year.

Here’s a money-saving idea for you: Put together your own theater group, invite friends over and watch the original film in your living room! The new West Side Story Special Edition, featuring a DVD and illuminating book, looks and sounds incredible on your own TV. Included is an engrossing one-hour documentary, featuring interviews with cast and crew members and footage showing the actual filming.  After all, this film is a beloved classic and deserves such treatment. Even though it was filmed in 1961 (whew!), for many, West Side Story set a standard that remains unsurpassed in movie musicals. Yes, it's that good!

Maybe you haven’t thought of them lately, but honestly, who could forget Tony and Maria, the Sharks and the Jets and the beautiful lyrics of Maria, America and Tonight? Performances of this musical garnered a total of ten Academy Awards! Whether you’re attending the stage show or sitting front-and-center on your sofa, it’s a feast for your eyes, ears and heart.
